I first used Blender on the 16th on January, 2020. My Brother, Sam, showed me how to make a mug and sent me on my way. I really started consistently learning that summer, when half the world shut down (of course).
Photorealistic environments are my main goal currently. Recently much of what I've done is experimental learning centered around material shaders, hard-surface modeling, particle systems, and physics simulations (from most to least prevalent). This lends itself to interiors and items / products. Both of which you will see a lot of on this site.
My Latest Project
Why I made it
I rendered this specifically for Christmas (though I was a little late), but my main effort was modeling the sled. Its many hard edges and curved surfaces made good practice for both destructive and non-destructive modeling methods.
Though many people don't see a pile of presents or carpet of snow, I hope Christmas could remind everyone of something that brings joy.
This project probably took more active hours to make than any other I've done so far. Along with being the most realistic render, it is my second longest animation. The only shameful part is my sample count. (I keep looking at small render artifacts!)
Ah yes, a donut: the "hello world" of Blender. As it was the first thing I ever made (other than a basic mug), I followed a tutorial the whole way through. If you haven't heard of Blender Guru, he doesn't create many tutorials, but his donut course was a good place to start. Though I am even more grateful that my brother showed some of the basics.
In case your curious, I rendered this again specifically for the website. I needed to make sure textures could be credited, samples were ample, and the watermark cooperated. But Not much changed.
I made this while learning about particle systems, everything else was just to make it presentable. I used an emmiter particle system with starting velocity, basic circular meshes, an orthographic camera, and an empty parent. The empty parent was simply used to give the orange dot an easy circluar motion.
It only took 1 or two days, but it was fun to make.
